# ShelRoom Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of **ShelRoom**, including its game client, servers, websites, community services, and related features (collectively, the "Service").

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using ShelRoom, you agree to these Terms.

## 1. About ShelRoom

ShelRoom is an independent and unofficial project intended to provide a multiplayer game experience inspired by and compatible with certain historical Rec Room experiences.

ShelRoom is **not an official Rec Room product**.

ShelRoom is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, authorized by, or approved by Rec Room Inc.

Nothing in the Service should be interpreted as representing an official relationship between ShelRoom, its operators, and Rec Room Inc.

## 2. Rec Room and Third-Party Intellectual Property

"Rec Room," its name, branding, logos, characters, environments, models, textures, animations, audio, music, items, interfaces, game assets, and other related materials may be protected by copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights belonging to Rec Room Inc. or its licensors.

ShelRoom does not claim ownership of intellectual property owned by Rec Room Inc. or other third parties.

Any third-party materials appearing in or in connection with ShelRoom remain the property of their respective owners.

These Terms do not grant ShelRoom, its users, or any other person ownership of or a license to Rec Room intellectual property beyond any rights separately granted by the applicable rights holder or permitted by applicable law.

If any content is found to violate applicable intellectual property rights, ShelRoom may remove, replace, disable, or restrict access to that content.

## 3. Unofficial Project Notice

ShelRoom is an unofficial community project.

Users must not represent ShelRoom as:

* an official Rec Room service;
* an official Rec Room server;
* an official Rec Room client;
* an official update, remake, or rerelease;
* a service operated by Rec Room Inc.; or
* a product officially approved by Rec Room Inc.

Users may not use ShelRoom to impersonate Rec Room Inc., its employees, moderators, developers, or representatives.

## 4. License to Use ShelRoom

Subject to these Terms, ShelRoom grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable right to access and use the Service for lawful purposes.

This license does not grant you ownership of ShelRoom software, third-party content, or any intellectual property contained within the Service.

Unless specifically authorized, you may not:

1. sell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute ShelRoom;
2. redistribute third-party assets extracted from ShelRoom;
3. extract assets for use in unrelated projects;
4. falsely claim ownership of third-party assets;
5. use ShelRoom to impersonate another person or organization;
6. intentionally disrupt ShelRoom servers or infrastructure;
7. exploit security vulnerabilities;
8. gain unauthorized access to accounts, servers, or data;
9. distribute malware through the Service; or
10. use cheats, exploits, automation, or modified software in a way that negatively affects other users or the Service.

## 5. Accounts

Some ShelRoom features may require an account.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and credentials.

You must not attempt to access another user's account without authorization.

Account selling, unauthorized account transfers, credential theft, or attempts to bypass account restrictions may result in suspension or termination.

ShelRoom may restrict, suspend, or terminate an account when reasonably necessary for security, abuse prevention, enforcement of these Terms, or compliance with applicable law.

## 6. Community Conduct

When using multiplayer, social, voice, text, or community features, users are expected to behave appropriately.

The following conduct may result in moderation action:

* harassment or targeted abuse;
* threats of violence;
* malicious impersonation;
* sharing another person's private information without permission;
* intentionally disrupting gameplay;
* exploiting bugs to harm other users;
* distributing malicious files or links;
* fraud or scams;
* repeated spam;
* attempts to compromise ShelRoom infrastructure; or
* other unlawful conduct.

Moderation actions may include warnings, temporary restrictions, suspensions, content removal, or permanent account termination.

## 7. User-Generated Content

ShelRoom may allow users to create, upload, submit, or share content such as rooms, maps, text, images, models, or other materials.

You are responsible for content you submit.

You must have the necessary rights or permissions to upload or distribute your content.

You may not upload content that infringes copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other legal rights.

You retain ownership of original content that you create.

By submitting content to ShelRoom, you grant ShelRoom a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, transmit, display, and process that content only as reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, moderate, and improve the Service.

This license ends when the content is permanently deleted from the Service, except where retention is reasonably required for backups, security, legal compliance, or enforcement purposes.

## 8. Prohibited Content

Users may not use ShelRoom to distribute or promote:

* illegal content;
* malware or malicious code;
* stolen personal information;
* content that unlawfully infringes intellectual property rights;
* fraudulent or deceptive material;
* content intended to compromise accounts or systems; or
* content otherwise prohibited by applicable law.

ShelRoom may remove or restrict such content without prior notice when reasonably necessary.

## 9. Cheats, Exploits, and Unauthorized Modifications

You may not use software, scripts, exploits, modified clients, bots, or other tools to obtain an unfair advantage, interfere with other users, bypass restrictions, compromise server security, or disrupt normal Service operation.

Security research must not intentionally damage ShelRoom infrastructure, expose private user information, or interfere with other users.

## 10. Service Availability

ShelRoom is provided on an evolving and potentially experimental basis.

Features may be modified, added, removed, replaced, or discontinued at any time.

The Service may temporarily become unavailable because of:

* server maintenance;
* updates;
* software bugs;
* infrastructure failures;
* network problems;
* security incidents;
* legal requirements;
* third-party requests; or
* other operational reasons.

ShelRoom does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.

## 11. Removal of Third-Party Content

If ShelRoom receives a valid request from a rights holder concerning content used by the Service, ShelRoom may investigate the request and take appropriate action.

Such action may include:

* removing an asset;
* replacing an asset;
* disabling a feature;
* restricting distribution;
* modifying the Service; or
* discontinuing part or all of ShelRoom.

These actions may occur without prior notice when necessary to protect legal rights or comply with applicable requirements.

## 12. Intellectual Property Complaints

If you believe content available through ShelRoom infringes your copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights, contact:

* identification of the protected work;
* identification of the allegedly infringing content;
* the location of the content within ShelRoom;

ShelRoom may request additional information before processing a complaint.

## 13. Data and Game Progress

ShelRoom may store account information, game progress, settings, inventories, room data, moderation records, and other information required to operate the Service.

Although reasonable efforts may be made to protect stored data, ShelRoom does not guarantee that game progress or other data will never be lost or corrupted.

Data may be affected by server failures, software defects, updates, migrations, security incidents, or other technical events.

## 14. Service Termination

ShelRoom may suspend, modify, or discontinue the Service, either partially or entirely.

This may occur due to technical, operational, financial, security, legal, intellectual property, or other reasons.

Where reasonably possible, significant planned changes may be announced in advance. However, immediate changes may be necessary in response to security incidents, legal requests, or intellectual property claims.

## 15. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ShelRoom is provided **"as is"** and **"as available."**

ShelRoom makes no guarantee that:

* the Service will always be available;
* the Service will be free from bugs;
* all historical game behavior will be reproduced accurately;
* all devices will be compatible;
* user data will never be lost; or
* third-party services will remain available.

Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

## 16. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operators of ShelRoom will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or similar damages resulting from:

* use or inability to use the Service;
* loss of game data;
* server downtime;
* network problems;
* third-party services;
* unauthorized user conduct;
* device incompatibility; or
* changes to or discontinuation of the Service.

This section does not limit liability that cannot legally be limited under applicable law.

## 17. Enforcement

ShelRoom may investigate suspected violations of these Terms.

Where appropriate, ShelRoom may:

* issue a warning;
* remove content;
* reset affected game data;
* temporarily restrict access;
* suspend an account;
* permanently terminate an account;
* block abusive network traffic; or
* take other reasonable measures necessary to protect the Service or its users.

Enforcement decisions may consider the seriousness, frequency, and impact of the violation.

## 18. Changes to These Terms

ShelRoom may update these Terms when necessary because of changes to the Service, legal requirements, security practices, or operational policies.

The latest version of the Terms will include an updated "Last Updated" date.

Continued use of ShelRoom after updated Terms take effect may constitute acceptance of the revised Terms where permitted by applicable law.

Where applicable law requires separate consent, ShelRoom will request such consent.

## 19. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is determined to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to remain in effect to the extent permitted by law.
